Lavrov: Russia will respond to new US sanctions and draw additional conclusions

23 December 2020

Moscow will draw conclusions regarding the entire set of Russian-American dialogue after new sanctions from Washington, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference on Wednesday.

"The US has long pursued a hostile policy against our country. Of course, an answer will follow. And not only in terms of mirroring or asymmetry, but we will also make additional conclusions, which will concern the whole complex of Russian-American relations," Lavrov said.

"We will take all this into account both in specific situations related to building business with the United States, which has proven to be completely unreliable as partners, and we will take it into account more broadly," the minister stressed.

According to him, the overwhelming majority of Russian and American businessmen are not satisfied with the current state of affairs and they are "sincerely interested in stopping this tendency".

The head of the Foreign Ministry noted that the US actions reflect a "strategic line" aimed at the maximum weakening of Washington's competitors on the world markets "in flagrant violation of the norms of the World Trade Organization".

US sanctions

The United States prepared on Monday a list of Russian and Chinese companies and organizations that are banned from buying certain types of US goods and technology subject to export controls. The list includes a total of 103 companies, some of which are duplicated. The Russian part of the document includes 45 names (actually, due to repetitions there are 41), the Chinese 58. From the point of view of the US authorities, these are legal entities, which are "military end users".

The Russian bloc includes, along with corporations and enterprises, the Foreign Intelligence Service and the Russian Defense Ministry, as well as the medical and sanitary unit of the Russian Interior Ministry's Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Main Directorate.
