06 October 2023

Russia and Uzbekistan are actively collaborating in various sectors, and Moscow is keen on advancing this cooperation further, stated Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin during a meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

"This marks your first visit to Russia as president after your election. I am absolutely confident that it will usher in a new chapter in the development of the friendly, partnership, and allied relations that unite the peoples of Uzbekistan and Russia," stated the head of the Cabinet as he commenced the meeting.

He highlighted that he and Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov are diligently addressing all tasks related to advancing strategic agreements between the two nations. "And, naturally, we will honor any agreements that are reached during today's discussions at the Kremlin," Mishustin affirmed.

"We are genuinely keen on strengthening our cooperation. Our bilateral trade and economic turnover has surpassed 612 billion rubles, equivalent to 98 trillion Uzbek soums. From January to July, our mutual trade volume grew by an additional 14.5%, reaching over 470 billion Russian rubles or 58 trillion Uzbek soums," the Russian prime minister presented the statistics.

He pointed out that investment cooperation is thriving, with Russian companies making significant headway in the Uzbek market. Substantial joint initiatives in the fields of energy, agriculture, transport infrastructure, and the digital economy are currently in progress. Mishustin also extended a warm welcome to Uzbekistan's status as an observer in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

"I would also like to highlight the special relationships between our regions. Russian federal subjects are directly engaged with Uzbek colleagues and partners. Notable leaders in this regard include Moscow, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Orenburg, Chelyabinsk, and Sverdlovsk regions," continued the Russian prime minister. He also mentioned the well-established humanitarian and cultural ties between the two states, as well as their collaboration in the field of education. "I believe there are still untapped opportunities for even closer cooperation in these areas," Mishustin added.

"Furthermore, I'd like to extend an invitation to our Uzbek friends to participate in the upcoming international exhibition in Russia. It will take place at VDNKh, where the Uzbekistan pavilion was inaugurated just yesterday. I believe this exhibition will provide us with an excellent opportunity to engage in in-depth discussions about our mutual cooperation. We have numerous projects that we can take pride in," concluded the Russian prime minister.
