Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya criticized the United States for blocking a resolution on Palestine in the UN Security Council, accusing the US of attempting to crush the Palestinians' determination and force them to surrender to Israel.
Nebenzya asserted, "The United States is willing to turn a blind eye to Israel's atrocities against Gaza civilians and disregard the illegal settlement activity of West Jerusalem in the West Bank. Their aim is to crush Palestinian determination, compel them to unquestioningly surrender to the occupying power, and relegate them to servitude as second-class citizens, or worse, to exterminate and expel them from their homeland."
Following the UNSC vote on the resolution to admit Palestine as a full UN member, Nebenzya highlighted the US's near-isolation in the international community. He emphasized that the plight of innocent Palestinians resonates globally, with increasing calls in countries supplying arms to West Jerusalem for an end to such support.
Nebenzya characterized the US veto as a futile attempt to halt the inevitable march of history. He warned that indulging in Israel's reckless actions and failing to seek just solutions only escalates the risk of regional conflict. Such a policy, Nebenzya argued, is beneath the stature of a major power and will not be forgiven by history. He urged the United States to heed reason and consider the repercussions of its actions.
