Leaders of the CIS countries are driven by their respective national interests, even in the face of Western attempts to put pressure on Moscow's allies, stated Russian President Vladimir Putin during his speech at the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State.
"We fully understand the situation at hand. This is not exclusive to the CIS; it extends to all of Russia's allies. There is an attempt to stifle or even, I would dare say, to intimidate and dictate to others. However, the leaders of the CIS countries, and we are well aware of it, are individuals primarily driven by their own national interests," he emphasized.
The Russian president anticipates that the CIS leaders will persist in nurturing their relationships in this manner in the future. "On the contrary, we observe that the more forceful attempts to put pressure on someone, the less successful those making such attempts tend to be," he stated.
Putin emphasized that matters relating to enhancing foreign policy coordination within the CIS remain pertinent. "Naturally, it's essential not only to continually synchronize our positions on pressing global and regional issues but also to formulate mutually agreed-upon approaches and collectively advocate for these stances, including in the UN and other international forums," he stated.
