Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Kazakh counterpart, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, held telephone talks to discuss the floods affecting the border regions of both countries. The leaders agreed to enhance their cooperation in addressing waterlogging issues, as reported by the Kremlin press service.
"The complex flood situation in the border regions of Russia and Kazakhstan was discussed in detail. It was noted the close cooperation of specialized agencies and services of the two countries, which jointly monitor and forecast the situation, develop and implement coordinated response measures," the statement reads.
The heads of state agreed to intensify this cooperative effort. They also discussed "some aspects of international and regional issues, including in the context of Russia's chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States and Kazakhstan's chairmanship of the Collective Security Treaty Organization."
Putin and Tokayev confirmed their mutual willingness to further strengthen Russia-Kazakhstan allied relations, according to the Kremlin.
