Vladimir Putin sent a message to Joseph R. Biden congratulating him on his victory in the presidential election in the United States of America, the Kremlin press service reported on Tuesday.
"In the telegram, Putin wished the President-elect every success and expressed confidence that Russia and the United States, which bear special responsibility for global security and stability, can, despite their differences, effectively contribute to solving many problems and meeting challenges that the world is facing today," the press service said in a statement.
Putin also noted that with this in mind, Russian-American cooperation, based on the principles of equality and mutual respect, would meet the interests of both nations and the entire international community.
“For my part, I am ready for interaction and contacts with you,” Russia’s Head of State stressed in his message.
The electoral college on Monday approved the results of the vote in the US presidential election that would make Biden the new head of state. There were 306 electors in favor of the Democrat and 232 in favor of Republican Donald Trump. In order to become president of the United States, the candidate must receive 270 votes.
Trump, who does not concede his defeat in the election, said in late November that he would leave the White House if the electoral college votes for Biden. In this regard, this procedure, which is usually considered a formality, attracted a lot of media attention.
