Russian President Vladimir Putin expects a face-to-face meeting of the heads of permanent UN Security Council (UNSC) member states to be held as soon as epidemiological conditions permit. Such an initiative was put forward by Russia last year, the head of state reminded in his Wednesday address to the Federal Assembly.

He stressed that the "nuclear five" countries have a special responsibility in the field of security.

"I hope that the initiative of a personal meeting of the heads of permanent member states of the UN Security Council, which we put forward last year, will be implemented, and it will take place as soon as epidemiological conditions allow," Putin said.

The Russian Federation is always open to broad interstate cooperation, he pointed out. "We consistently advocate the preservation and strengthening of the key role of the United Nations in world affairs," the Russian leader stressed.

He noted that Moscow seeks to help resolve regional conflicts and has already done much to stabilize the situation in Syria and establish a political dialogue in Libya. "Russia also played a major role, as you know, in stopping the armed conflict in the region of Nagorno-Karabakh," Putin reminded.
