Putin to Address Russian Energy Week Alongside Iraqi Prime Minister

11 October 2023

Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate in Russian Energy Week (REW) in Moscow, where he will address the forum's main business event during the plenary session. The visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani to Moscow coincides with REW, and he will also take part in the discussions. The two leaders had bilateral talks earlier, discussing topics including the energy sector, and they emphasized the successful coordination between Moscow and Baghdad within the OPEC+ framework to stabilize global energy markets.

REW is scheduled to run from October 11 to 13 and will bring together government representatives from various countries, leaders of major energy companies and organizations, as well as experts and scientists. This year's central theme is "New Reality of World Energy: Creating the Future"

Putin praised REW as a significant international event in the global energy sector, where specialists and experts can discuss the present and future of the industry. He highlighted the importance of international energy cooperation, which is actively progressing despite current geopolitical conditions.

Traditionally, at the REW plenary session, President Putin provides an overview of the global energy market, discusses Russia's role and stance, and outlines key objectives in the domestic energy sector. This sets the stage for other panelists to share their perspectives on pressing issues. According to the program on the REW website, the discussion is expected to last approximately two hours.

One of the major events in the "International Agenda" track is the session titled "The Global Oil and Gas Market: Navigating a Period of Turbulence," featuring the participation of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak. This discussion will include representatives from foreign nations and international organizations, with the involvement of OPEC Secretary-General Haitham Al-Ghais, Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska Radovan Viskovic, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji, and Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov.

In the "Sustainable Development and Climate" segment, sessions will explore the future of low-carbon energy in Russia and innovative climate projects. The Russian Energy Week program also delves into scientific and technological advancement and digital transformation.

October 13 is designated as Youth Day, during which more than 1,500 young specialists, students, and schoolchildren will gather in Moscow to exchange experiences and ideas. Furthermore, the forum will present the Global Energy International Prize to recognize research and development efforts contributing to enhanced efficiency and environmental sustainability within the fuel and energy sector. The Energy of the Pen International Journalism Prize will also be awarded.

Over 2,500 participants from more than 50 countries and territories have confirmed their attendance at REW. The forum is organized by the Roscongress Foundation and the Russian Ministry of Energy, with support from the Moscow Government.
