Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to meet with Uzbekistan's leader, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who is on an official visit to Russia.
The discussions will revolve around the prospects for further development of Russian-Uzbek relations, along with current regional and international matters. Key topics include cooperation in trade, economics, investment, migration, and humanitarian efforts.
During a previous meeting at the Valdai Discussion Club, Putin highlighted a significant joint project between Moscow and Tashkent, involving the transportation of Russian gas to Uzbekistan through Kazakhstan. According to him, full-fledged deliveries via this route are set to commence in October, with the potential for gradual increases.
Following their talks, Putin and Mirziyoyev are expected to issue a joint statement and sign various interdepartmental and commercial agreements. However, their interaction is likely to extend beyond the official agenda. Uzbek President Mirziyoyev's visit will continue until Saturday, coinciding with Putin's 71st birthday on October 7.
In addition to his meeting with the Russian president, Mirziyoyev is scheduled to hold discussions with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, as previously announced by Mirziyoyev's press service.
The Russian Cabinet of Ministers maintains regular contact with counterparts in Tashkent. In September, Moscow hosted a meeting of the joint commission at the level of heads of government from Russia and Uzbekistan, addressing various aspects of cooperation, including trade, economics, investment, culture, and humanitarian efforts.
Visit to Tatarstan
Mirziyoyev's visit to Russia began the day before, following an invitation from President Putin. He initially arrived in Kazan, where he was welcomed by the head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, and other officials. During his visit to Kazan, the Uzbek leader toured the Technopark of High Technologies, explored an exhibition showcasing Tatarstan's industrial capabilities, and gained insights into the outcomes of the "Russia - Uzbekistan" regional forum.
Mirziyoyev also engaged in separate discussions with Minnikhanov and Manturov. Conversations encompassed industrial cooperation and the potential for trade involving oil, gas, fuel oil, and other products.
On contacts between heads of state
President Putin and President Mirziyoyev maintain regular contact, with official reports indicating at least eight conversations between them this year. Additionally, President Putin conveyed his congratulations to President Mirziyoyev via telegram upon his re-election as the President of Uzbekistan. In his message, President Putin expressed confidence in the continued development of cooperation between Moscow and Tashkent.
This year, President Mirziyoyev visited Russia once, arriving on the eve of May 9. During this visit, the two leaders had a brief conversation, and the following day, President Mirziyoyev participated in Victory Day celebrations, which included attending the Red Square parade and laying wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
