Communications between Moscow and Dushanbe

The leaders of Russia and Tajikistan maintain regular contact, with their upcoming meeting marking the third one this year. The last meeting occurred in mid-October in Bishkek, on the sidelines of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit. During their talks, they discussed the advancement of cooperation in various sectors, including banking, finance, investment, energy, and agriculture. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of enhancing collaboration between specialized agencies in the field of migration.

Rahmon's visit to Moscow will be his second trip to Russia this year. The previous visit occurred six months ago, when the Tajik leader participated in events commemorating the 78th anniversary of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War at the invitation of President Putin.

Collaboration between Russia and Tajikistan

Russia holds a pivotal position as Tajikistan's primary trade partner, with the trade turnover between the two nations surpassing $1.2 billion by the end of the third quarter. Tourism is also thriving, with 737.2 thousand tourists from CIS countries visiting Tajikistan in the same period, including 248.1 thousand Russian citizens.

Beyond economic ties, Russia and Tajikistan are fostering collaboration in cultural and humanitarian spheres. Following President Rakhmon's official visit to Moscow in April 2019, an agreement was reached to establish five schools in Tajikistan that provide education in the Russian language, following the standards of the Russian Federation. These schools were slated to commence operations in September 2022. Furthermore, the two countries are currently working on projects such as constructing an educational center for gifted children and the Mayakovsky Russian Drama Theater in Tajikistan.
