Russian Ambassador in Dushanbe Confirms Putin Will Definitely Visit Tajikistan

18 December 2023

Russian President Vladimir Putin has fully acknowledged the invitation extended by Tajikistan's leader, Emomali Rahmon, and has confirmed his intent to visit the country. This announcement was made by Ambassador Semyon Grigoryev in an interview with TASS.

"The invitation is gratefully accepted and under consideration. Russian President Vladimir Putin has visited our friendly country Tajikistan on multiple occasions and will undoubtedly do so again. He is aware of the warm and sincere sentiments towards Russia and himself personally in this country, and, of course, he values it," stated Grigoryev.

The diplomat highlighted that compatriots residing in Tajikistan are supportive of Putin and his candidacy for the 2024 presidency. "It's noteworthy that well before the commencement of the election campaign, the embassy began receiving expressions of support for Vladimir Putin's nomination for the presidency of Russia. Recently, the Coordination Council of Associations of Russian Compatriots in Tajikistan issued a statement applauding Vladimir Vladimirovich's decision to run as a candidate in the March 2024 elections. As far as I know, this is one of the initial reactions abroad to Vladimir Putin's nomination," Grigoryev added.

During an official visit to Moscow in November, Rahmon extended an invitation to Putin to visit Tajikistan at a convenient time. Putin had previously visited Tajikistan in June 2022.
