Russian and Uzbek Experts Acknowledge the Resilience of Countries' Ties Amid External Challenges

18 October 2023

Experts from Russia and Uzbekistan gathered at a seminar in the Uzbek city of Khiva to discuss the development of relations between the two states. They highlighted the strength of the ties between Moscow and Tashkent in the face of external challenges. The event was organized jointly by the Valdai International Discussion Club and the Institute for Strategic and International Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This information was reported by TASS.

During the first session, the panelists delved into the political dialogue between the two nations. "Despite international instability, the bilateral relationship remains resilient against external challenges and internal development issues. This resilience is built on a foundation of mutual understanding at the political level, a shared vision of major regional and global issues, and collaboration within the SCO and other international organizations. What sets the Russia-Uzbekistan relationship apart is its ability to manage and strengthen their positive dynamics while addressing challenges, ultimately enhancing their bilateral ties rather than diluting them," the seminar release reads.

During other sessions, experts discussed the escalation of existing challenges and the emergence of new ones in a changing international order.

"No matter how packed the international political agenda might get, the relationship between Eurasian states, particularly Russia and Uzbekistan, is shaped by intrinsic interconnections, impervious to transient circumstances. This encompasses a broad spectrum of topics, ranging from transportation and logistics to energy, and from climate to demography," stated Fyodor Lukyanov, Director of Research at the Valdai Club.

Furthermore, the experts delved into topics related to enhancing the transportation infrastructure and digitalization of trade. They also explored the repercussions of migration on the Russian labor market and the socio-economic stability of Uzbekistan. The release noted, "Representatives from the Russian and Uzbek expert communities shared their perspectives on regional and bilateral agenda items within the scope of the seminar, identified a range of current and forthcoming challenges, and outlined a collaborative program for their examination and subsequent resolution. According to the unanimous view of the participants, the seminar constitutes a pivotal step in reinforcing shared expert backing for the interstate relations between Russia and Uzbekistan."

"The intricacy and inherent contradictions in today's global development stage, coupled with the mounting risks and challenges posed by escalating conflicts that affect humanity, necessitate our collective effort. This includes collaborating with our Uzbek counterparts to gain a comprehensive understanding of the most pressing issues in our present reality. We must strive to transform ourselves, metaphorically, into a cogitative apparatus capable of devising solutions that may contribute to enhancing the world we inhabit," underscored Andrei Bystritsky, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for Development and Support of the Valdai Club.
