Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali held discussions on UN initiatives focused on securing a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

"A comprehensive conversation took place, covering various international and regional topics, with a particular emphasis on matters pertaining to the Middle East," the Russian diplomatic ministry stated in a release following the meeting on October 23. They went on to highlight that the discussions placed particular emphasis on the evolving events within the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone. "Furthermore, the dialogue encompassed the UN's ongoing initiatives, including efforts to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensure unhindered access for those requiring assistance," the statement read.

The meeting took place at the request of an Iranian diplomat.

During a press conference following the 3+3 meeting of foreign ministers, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian announced on Monday that he had requested his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, to prevent the UN Security Council from passing a resolution that goes against Palestinian interests.
