The Russian Federation has confirmed its intention to send representatives as observers to the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference following discussions with Gambian Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara.
"We have been informed by our allies about the preparations for the fifteenth summit of the OIC, scheduled to take place in Banjul in May this year. We are pleased to confirm our commitment to sending Russian representatives as observers to this significant international forum," Lavrov stated.
The OIC, the second-largest international organization after the United Nations, comprises 57 member states and is based in Jeddah. The organization was previously known as the Organization of the Islamic Conference until June 2011. The current host nation, Gambia, is leading the OIC for the first time.
