Russian MFA ready to work with US on security assurances despite disagreements

Moscow has confirmed its readiness to work with Washington on security guarantees in spite of all disagreements, passing concrete proposals to the US side in this regard, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday on the "Solovyov Live" YouTube channel.

She pointed out that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov relayed the Russian side's proposals to US Assistant Secretary of State Karen Donfried at a meeting in Moscow on Wednesday. "This is concrete, substantive work. This is another proof, another fact in favor of the fact that we are really, despite the differences (by the way, also of a principled nature, it is not only momentary or momentary differences of our views), despite this we are ready for substantive work on the key issues that concern both our countries, the peoples of our countries, and, in general, the entire international community," Zakharova noted.

According to her, Russia is thus taking practical steps "that should lead to a dialogue on the principal, key issues" both for bilateral relations with the United States, and in terms of global stability and security. She also stressed that such actions by Moscow are far from megaphone diplomacy or attempts to prove anyone wrong. "This is another factor, another, I think, just irrefutable proof of our ability to develop a constructive approach to the bilateral agenda, the international agenda, despite the conjunctural circumstances that are piling up by our partners," concluded the Russian Foreign Ministry official.

Earlier, Putin called on NATO to start substantive talks with the aim of providing Russia with reliable and long-term security guarantees. The head of state said that Russia needed legal guarantees because its Western colleagues had not fulfilled their verbal commitments.
