17 October 2023

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) expresses deep concern over the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and advocates for a peaceful resolution based on the two-state solution. This statement was reported by the Xinhua news agency, citing the Secretary-General of the organization, Zhang Ming.

"The Shanghai Cooperation Organization expresses profound concern regarding the ongoing escalation in Palestinian-Israeli tensions. The recent flare-up of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has unfortunately extended, leading to a significant loss of life, including innocent civilians, and even children. The SCO has consistently advocated for resolving regional conflicts through political and diplomatic channels. I urge all relevant parties to immediately cease hostilities and violence, exercise restraint, and actively pursue dialogue to avert further deterioration of the situation. This is crucial to protect civilians and prevent a severe humanitarian crisis," he conveyed to Xinhua.

Zhang Ming also emphasized that the SCO endorses the peaceful resolution of the situation under UN leadership. He stated, "Simultaneously, we endorse the expeditious de-escalation of the situation through peaceful means under UN supervision and the swift advancement of a comprehensive, equitable, and enduring resolution to the Palestinian question in accordance with the principles of the 'two-state solution,' thus ensuring lasting peace and stability in the Middle East." He further highlighted the SCO's commitment to collaborating with the international community in upholding global and regional security.
