Senegalese President Calls Putin

13 November 2023

Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation with Senegalese President Macky Sall, focusing on bilateral trade and economic collaboration, as reported by the Kremlin's press service.

The message reported a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the President of the Republic of Senegal, Macky Sall, initiated by the Senegalese side. It was noted that "as a continuation of discussions during the second Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg," the conversation encompassed current issues within Russian-Senegalese cooperation, including the potential for advancing trade, economic, and investment connections. The statement following the conversation highlighted that the leaders of Russia and Senegal expressed a "shared commitment to enhancing collaborative efforts in this direction."

"A discussion took place regarding the significant escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the challenging humanitarian circumstances in the Gaza Strip," the report stated.

Putin and Macky Sall also discussed matters pertaining to bilateral cooperation between their countries.

"It has been agreed that the discussion of all raised issues will continue through multiple bilateral channels," concluded the Kremlin.

The situation in the Middle East escalated significantly after the Palestinian Hamas movement infiltrated Israel from the Gaza Strip on October 7. Hamas cited its attack as a response to Israeli actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israel responded by imposing a complete blockade on Gaza and carrying out retaliatory strikes on Gaza, as well as parts of Lebanon and Syria. Clashes have also erupted in the West Bank.
