Volodin Proposes Creation of Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation with Egypt

11 July

Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin has proposed the creation of an interparliamentary commission on cooperation with Egypt to Chairman of the Egyptian Chamber of Deputies, Hanafi Gibali. The proposal was made during the X BRICS Parliamentary Forum held in St. Petersburg, as reported on the State Duma's website.

Volodin emphasized that Russia and Egypt are strategic partners with a long history of relations. He suggested to Gibali that they sign an agreement to establish an interparliamentary commission for cooperation between the State Duma and the Egyptian Chamber of Deputies. He noted that similar formats are actively used with the UAE, Iran, and China.

"It is important to give contacts a more systematic nature and reach new formats of cooperation through which it is possible to achieve joint goals and solve problems facing the two states," Volodin stated.

Hanafi Gibali expressed full support for the idea, assuring that necessary steps would be taken to sign the agreement and further develop bilateral relations. "We fully support the idea of concluding a cooperation agreement between the State Duma and the Chamber of Deputies. For our part, we will do everything necessary for the signing and will further develop our relations," Gibali said, as quoted on the State Duma's website.
