Moscow considers the events in Washington on January 6 an internal affair of the United States and wishes the American people to survive with dignity a dramatic moment in its own history, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told TASS.

"This is an internal US matter," she said. - "At the same time, we again draw attention to the fact that the electoral system in the United States is archaic, it does not meet modern democratic standards, creating opportunities for numerous violations, and the American media has become a tool of political struggle. This has caused much of the societal divide that is now evident in the United States."

"We wish the friendly American people to overcome this dramatic moment in their own history with dignity," Zakharova added.

According to the final official figures, Democrat Joseph Biden won the US presidential election. The US Senate and House of Representatives began a joint session on Wednesday to approve the election results, but it was interrupted for several hours after supporters of Trump broke into the Capitol building, crushing the police cordons. Lawmakers were able to reconvene after law enforcement cleared the Capitol of protesters. Biden was still confirmed as the winner of the election after all.

According to the police, during clashes in Washington four people were killed, at least 14 lawmen were injured and more than 50 people were arrested.
