The GSV "Russia - Islamic World" is a broad platform of various initiatives but the dialogue of intellectuals is one of the most important fields of the Group, Konstantin Shuvalov, the Special Representative of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for Cooperation with Organizations of Muslim States, Ambassador at Large, told speaking at the "Chingiz Aitmatov International Forum of Writers and Intellectuals" videoconference.
According to him, the pandemic has revealed many problems of humanity. If earlier we talked about the interaction of cultures, religions and civilizations, now the pandemic threatens the whole mankind. We used to think that civilization was able to overcome barbarism but this is not a given, all this requires the efforts of mankind.
Special hopes, in this case, are put on intellectuals, whose task is to keep up with the flow of events.
The theme of this year's video conference is "Russia and the Islamic world: The role of traditional values in maintaining cultural diversity". The aim of the forum is to unite intellectuals to develop joint approaches to solving urgent spiritual, moral and humanitarian issues of modern society.
The Forum is attended by Farit Mukhametshin, the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Deputy Chairman of the GSV "Russia - Islamic World", Ramazan Abdulatipov, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Konstantin Shuvalov, the Special Representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for Cooperation with Organizations of Muslim States, Irina Bokova, the former head of UNESCO, Mounir Bouchenaki, the Special Adviser to UNESCO Director-General.
