24 November 2020

Mass media is an important engine for progress and strengthening of cooperation between the peoples, Hazem Abdo, head of the Foreign Affairs department of the OIC News Agencies Union, said at an online conference "Russia - Islamic World: Crossroads of Information Cooperation".

"We have many points of contact. And we are not only talking about cultural or historical heritage. I am talking about close ties between us in literature, culture, science and technology. I would like to bring to the world journalistic community the problems that now the whole world face because we have a lot to discuss," the speaker noted.

According to Hazem Abdo, the question of correct use of relevant terminology by media professionals is still acute: "Now it is very necessary to clarify the terminology base because often the lack of necessary knowledge allows creating a conceptual link between Islam and terrorism. And this discrepancy and misunderstanding hinder our fruitful and effective work".

The conference was organized by the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World" with the support of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Union of OIC News Agencies and the Union of Journalists of Russia. The main topics of discussion are the prospects for cooperation between OIC countries and Russia in the media sphere, plans for potential cooperation with the involvement of interested organizations and departments, as well as the creation of a practical platform for meetings on a regular basis of the Group of Strategic Vision of specialists in the information sector.
