“Chinghiz Aitmatov is an outstanding author whose works made a major contribution to the development of the world, Turkic, and Kyrgyz culture, literature and art. Aitmatov’s books are known on all continents and translated into 180 languages. He has been recognized as a 20th century classic.

 

 

Chinghiz Aitmatov is the pride of our nation, and his books are cultural and spiritual legacy for the whole humanity. Each of his works was a landmark in the literary community. The characters he created are vivid symbols of an esthetic worldview.

 

 

“His books look at the issues related to historical memory, complex and perennial ethnical issues like ‘what should a man do to stay a man under difficult circumstances and situations.”

 

 

He drove the explosion of many other national arts like drama and ballet. The popularity of Kyrgyz cinema recognized worldwide as the ‘Kyrgyz wonder’ was largely due to scripts based on his works.

 

 

Chinghiz Aitmatov’s works give a glimpse into the Kyrgyz nation’s spiritual life, revealing its versatility, depth and philosophy. His name has become a symbol of spirituality and a source of national pride for many generations.

 

 

The conference that brings together intellectuals and the members of the creative community from different countries marks the 90th anniversary since the birth of the great kyrgyz writer.

The Turkish city of Istanbul hosted a conference on the role of Chinghiz Aitmatov’s legacy in promoting dialogue between cultures on March 23- 24, 2018. The event co-sponsored by the Russia – Islamic World group, IRCICA and Turkey’s Writers Union was the latest in a series of celebrations set to mark the 90th anniversary since the birth of the world renowned Soviet and Kyrgyz author.

 

 

Earlier in August of 2017, the Group staged the inaugural edition of the Aitmatov Readings: Dialogue of Cultures forum in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
